AZ Water Association Memorandum

September 28, 2020

TO: AZ Water Association Members, Committees and Councils

FR: AZ Water Association Board of Directors

RE: AZ Water Sponsored and Sanctioned in Person Meetings

The AZ Water Association Board of Directors would like to thank all our members who continue to work with their committees to provide necessary programing for the organization. It is the work of our all-volunteer organization that fuels our success. These last few months have created many challenges in how we deliver programing and AZ Water has adapted quickly to our new environment. A great example of the work being done is that of the Conference Committee as they adapted our 93rd Annual Conference to a virtual platform. We encourage everyone to keep working to serve our members.

We understand that most of us are eagerly looking forward to getting back to the networking and interaction that help make AZ Water such a terrific organization. While the situation has improved somewhat, COVID-19 remains a serious health threat and some predict a second wave of increased spread this fall and winter. Many of our members’ employers continue to have strict limits on participation in group events, and Maricopa County and most municipalities across the state have continued to enforce policies that encourage social distancing and mandate the wearing of facemasks in public. Considering this ongoing situation, AZ Water is suspending all in-person meetings until December 31, 2020. We will reassess our ability to meet-in-person at or before that time. Because the future of the pandemic is uncertain at best, we are further requesting that, until further notice, representatives of the Association not enter into any event-related contracts, with a financial component, for any future date, without the Board or Executive Managers approval.

We regret that this policy has become necessary, because opportunities to meet, network, and learn together are at the heart of AZ Water. The Board of Directors will continue to monitor local and state data, mandates, and recommendations to ensure the safety of our members and the communities they serve, and we look forward to the time when we can return to our normal program of activities.

Thank you again for your work and commitment to AZ Water.
